Haunted treasure hunt- haunted, ghostly, chilling, eerie

Story starts off with people going into a house and are looking for a treasure at night. At night is when the ghosts come out and passages oopen up to a dark world of intimidating fire and beyond that is the treasure. Only one is the real one and is hidden amongst the other similar objects, revolving, golden and sleek. Only one has that shininess, and once they get hold of it, find a way out but can't go through the fire. Goes through the other end of the hidden world to get back. They get back to the ghostly world as everything turns normal again as it becomes day.

ghostly haunted space

I made the walls of this video, all sorts of different levels of translucency and made the spirit-like forms not to have such a literal form and gave each of them similar but different colours. Making it in a higher quality.

Final 2

This has different colour change as my idea was that it would only happen as a specific time and so shows from changing from a different colour and 100% opacity and decreases and seems more ghost-like

Final

Water render 2 techniquies

The final was one that I liked, that had the right textures with the water and positioned correctly with the uvw mapping. I liked how this material worked better that the snow and I think it looks better as it is more interesting along with how the camera is set up to elaborate the surprise, as the sense of anticipatiion is shown as you do not know what will be shown next. I like how it is a closed space as it looks cropped and you do not know what is beyond the space that I show. The spirit-like forms are also placed how I wanted them rather that the other renders I made that did not seem quite right. I also liked how the water render was more like the ghostly kind of material and the translucency of the walls went well with the material in my opinion.

water render 1

In this video was not quite right, although the water texture made it more interesting, the moving spirit-like forms did not move as fluidly as I would have liked

techniques

Making the spirit-like forms floating in the space to heighten the idea of the haunted. I used a online tutorial from the source, http://www.cadmonkey.com/tut9.htm, which helped me to make the ghost look more scary. Changeing the glossiness and specular level and fallout to make it. I also tried the snow and water texture to see which one would suit better, and as the snow just did not seem as a texture, it rather give the idea that I just made the diffuse colour white. As I used the water texture however, it give more of a texture that I liked, changing the diffuse level and using uvw maps for the effect I wanted. Getting the water and snow textures from http://www.freefoto.com/images/33/04/33_04_3---Water-Texture_web.jpg and http://radio.weblogs.com/0103021/images/snow.jpg. Using lighting to give the atmosphere the ghostly idea rather than it just being dark, and using the camera so it can be seen in different angles as well as though seeming as though someone is walking thorugh the space, zooming out from an insignificant part to make it look more interesting as time progresses.

Snow render

In this video, I tried to make it as the material being snow, did not give the effect I wanted especially though.

Interaction- ghostly

In this, I wanted to make the little forms to represent spirit-like things as they float around making the space seem scarier, and to interact in the space.

Intimidating world- intimidating, threatening.

This world is a world of intimidation and threat, in a closed space with spiky dangerous looking objects, it heightens the threat it is trying to portray. This world relates to the second assignment which I had the keyword "dangerous", this world leads from the ghostly world

Altered haunted experiment

Using the same idea, but just altering the opacity of the ghostly walls and making the walls part with edit mesh rather that rotating the whole object so it looks more fluid and interesting

Haunted experiment 2-shows exit

This is the extension to the haunted experiment, where it shows how it would lead to the next world. As the curtain-like ghostly walls part it seems like the wind is blowing them apart but suddenly stops as though a ghost is holding them apart or something, as you go through, with the view point of the camera.

Experimentations

Trying to merge different worlds together, I found it difficult to do it in virtools, as I attempted to export my video, from 3d max to virtools, although I don't know how to import 3ds max videos to virtools, I thought I could import the still image instead and to experiment with the effects virtools could have, and would have liked to do my world with a character going through the spaces but seems too difficult as I do not know much about it.
So, with my idea, of going from world to world, using a 3ds max animated video works, and makes it interesting as I can zoom out to make things interesting and make the objects odd shapes, unrealistic and the characteristics of the space I would like to portray

Haunted video experimentation

In this experiment, I tried to make the material haunted and ghost-like with the transparency and colour used. Making it wavy with the ghostly characterisstic as they are not solid.

Also wanting to experiment with zooming out of the image and making it interesting, as you expect it to be nothing but as time carries on, it shows more and gets more interesting.

haunted idea 2

In this idea, I had an idea of shadows, and how they only come out at night, the scariest time of day. Where the shadows will be moving, seem as though you are being followed without no object there, giving a haunted feeling. As hand brushes against shadow, its a portal. peep through it and get curious whats inside, so goes inside portal to a world where there a spikey creatures that are running after you, but seeing a slightly hidden hole, peep inside and looks colourful and safe, hop inside and is more safe than the spikey creatures, as the hole seals itself as they get inside, where the treasure is.
Then the next portal is where the treasure stood, and as you look it is the place where they first came from, the room of shadows, and go through, but as you land, it is day again and all the ghostly and scary aspects are there no longer.
Entrance is a night begins to settle in, with shadows and ghost-like aspects. then exits and leads to a intimidating world where the creatures are spikey and the walls are rugged and about to fall, then exits that world and enters a hidden world with the treasure, which then returns to the beginning world, but where all shadows and haunted aspects are gone as daylight breaks.

Haunted idea.

Trying to base my idea still on the "haunted" of idea for the world, I tried to make the forms more about my idea, so as it moves and launches into another world, the forms would be based on the idea of the intimidating and the threatening, as dangerous was too broad.
Then it leads to a portal that you would have never assumed would be there.
At the beginning, it starts off with a story that there is fog, where no one can see, but a translucent mysterious fog is there, giving the idea of a whispy ghost-like feeling, as though you're being followed, then as you walk through the fog, you end up in a cave as the fog dissapates, with the cave like world a dark and gloomy space, intimidating with the spikes protruding out of the the cave walls and sharp icicles that seem to almost be on the verge of falling onto the ground, with the spikes unknown if they will strike or not. Finding the hidden treasure. At the end would be the end of the line but there is no way down and nowhere to go. But as they get closer they put put hand in space but it disappear, and finds out it is a portal, then the spikey walls begin to close in so jump through. ending up in the same mysterious fog as before, and exits as the fog disappears as mysteriously as it came about.
The entrance of the impossible world is where the mysterious fog comes, where there are people who are looking for a treasure, entering the intimidating threatening cave as they walk forward and a portal that joins back into the world full of ghostly fog.
The idea of the intimidating and threatening comes from assignment 2, where my idea was about the dangerous, and the idea of the hidden, is how the hidden world of the intimidating world is brought and taken away, as there are the two hidden portals from one place to the other. The hidden idea coming from my first idea of the hidden illusionary patterns of assignment one. As well as the treasure that is stowed away in the intimidating world.
The treasure being a colourful colour as the hidden is now found, where as the other parts are gloomy, dark coloured and dull colours.

art galleries alive

In this idea, I had the idea of a painting in an art gallery of a Tyrannosaurus rex, unmoving at daytime but alive at night. Coming out of its frame and trying to leave the building. As it comes alive it brings in the impossible world as in real life this is impossible and brings in the danger from the second assignment.

Then as the T-rex tries to go out the doors. what he really is doing is goin back into his own picture frame in the end. The real way out is actually in a cave hidden by a stone in a mountain in the T-rex's own picture frame.

rainforest idea

This is the idea I had that I described in the "ideas" post.

As they enter different worlds, an underwater seaworld infested with dangerous sharks and a world that was hidden behind the curtain of the rainfall, but they both reunited through the random mirror the person swam through to escape the sharks, which brings in the impossible world. They then walk to the end, where they end up in a safe part of the rainforest, free of sharks and rainfalls, as they exit their nightmare rafting.

Haunted house idea continued.....

The last twopictures of the story board.

haunted house idea- haunted, eerie, ghostly

This being my first idea of the haunted house. What I described in the post before was what would happen in the final crit, of how I would bring assignment 1 and 2 into the impossible world.

So, without the aspects of assignment two, it will just have the space that links into another space.

These images could have fit into two pictures but it would have been hard to see my sketches so instead I took lots of closer images. These are only the first five, as I couldnt fit anymore in this one post.

In this idea, the entrance would be about them finding a treasure in the haunted house, so they approach the haunted house. As they rumage through the haunted house, through a bookshelf, someone lifts up a book and what the tend to find is that the bookshelf moves, and its not just a tunnel behind it either. So they go forwards, and weirdly it is a graveyard there, its like a different world, as there is nothing like a graveyard behind the house. They cannot go back so all they can do is go forwards, as the bookshelf shuts them in.

As they run for their lives, a trap door is found in the footpath of the forest and they slide down it, ending up in a room with no door but a framed picture, fireplace and some bean bags for a safe fall as they slide out from an entrance in the ceiling, also, they cannot go back out the way they came. Then they find that the fireplace opens up into the same room that they left with the bookcase. But, because they took the treasure (it was behind the big framed picture, they flee from the house as the treasure belonged to the ghost of the house which is awakened by the treasure being stolen, and they exit.
The pictures start from the bottom picture up.

ideas

In my ideas i wanted to have the idea of danger yet have a hidden aspect. So I had an idea of maybe a haunted house and as you go in there will be a bookshelf which turns out to be a hidden door to another "world" and it seems to be a graveyard, as skeletons seem to want to kill you they run for their lives and find a trap door in the floor of the forest that is hidden, and it slides down into a deserted secret room. (the skeleton/zombie is the danger part of the story that links to assignment 2, unexpected juxtaposition). This deserted room is where they land. trying to find a way our of this nightmare (as the room as no door) they come upon the treasure they were seeking in the first place and find that the fireplace has another secret passage that leads to the door they left. Fleeing the house as the ghost that haunts the house comes after them.
My other idea was of some people waterrafting, but the current gets too strong and they head for a waterfall, as they fall, someone falls out and finds themselves in a hidden cave hidden behind the curtain of a rainfall. As you walk further in you come to a lake, circular, in which a head pops out of the water as you find your friend emerging, glad to be alive. Their story was they fell down the waterfall, miraculously unharmed but as the waters were infested with sharks and had to swim as fast as she could, finding a underwater tunnel to swim through that the sharks could not fit, and kept on swimming to safety and ended up in the lake in which she emerged. The danger in that was the sharks as well as falling from a rainfall, the hidden aspect was of this hidden cave behind this waterfall that brought them both ro safelty.

puzzle world? or puzzle making?? fictional, imaginary, illusionary

This image which I got from http://www.socialsynapse.org.uk/images/jigsaw.jpg I found really interesting as not only was there a world within the puzzle and a world within the jigsaw puzzle making, it looks as though the lady in the puzzle is actually communicating with the boy who is making the puzzle, kind of combining the two worlds together. So, in a way, they are combined and separate worlds that would not have been possible in the real world.
This puzzle image makes it look like the entrance and exit is thorugh the puzzle maker and the lady in the puzzle combining both of the worlds as they communicate.

hole in ground- existing, daily life, functional, cartoonist

This image makes it look as though there is a hole in the ground in which the people are falling.. into another world? it makes it interesting, the bottom doesn't have to be just like a well, it could be a bottomless pitt or to another realm. I got this image from http://img468.imageshack.us/img468/281/aaxwell1wh.jpg. Aswell as that, it is painted in the 3d world to be seeming like a real image, as though people could really fall into it, which really intrigues me about this picture.

3d world mixed with 2d-existing, daily life, fictional, cartoonist

These images give the sense of two worlds combinimg. The real life a cartoons as well as 3d and 2d. as they are both physicall 2d but as you look at them they look 3d, painted on the concrete which seems impossibly world as though there is another world in the concrete that you don't acknowledge is just a 2d painting. Within this real world there is the cartoon world that seems as though its 3d

Worlds within- fantasy

This image is of a world but withing that world is seen of other wirlds within the orbs of that world which give the world that type of world within another world kind of moulding one into wach other somehow, which is impossible in reality. This image I from http://members.aol.com/roberth616/archives/worlds-within.jpg

3 perspectives- fantasy, illusionary

With different perspectives in this, the image can be seen in many different angles combined, as though many different spaces are there and seems as though different worlds are combined in it. this image was brought from http://homepage.mac.com/bobembry/studio/images/peacock2castles_illusions.jpg.
the different perspectives give the idea of different worlds within this image and combine worlds that is physically impossible in the real world, as this image all the "worlds" within it only shows a little part of the world, like opening a door to a new world where you don't know whatelse there is gives it mystery and interest.
There seems to be in this image there seems to be 3 different types of entrances and exits as the worlds are combined as if they are in the same world but as you look closer it looks as though they are totally different dimensions and worlds combined in to one.

Disney world- cartoonistic, fantasy, imaginary

Disney world, Retrieved from http://images.google.co.nz/imgres?imgurl=http://disneyworld.orlandovacation.com/images/disney_world.jpg&imgrefurl=http://disneyworld.orlandovacation.com/articles/rainy-days-wdw.php&h=600&w=395&sz=61&hl=en&start=2&sig2=qps6F8VuFTddtasCbmRGkw&um=1&tbnid=-0I4JQQ3LTbpZM:&tbnh=135&tbnw=89&ei=ZSv7RoiGPIz8gQOC85zcDQ&prev=/images%3Fq%3Ddisney%2Bworld%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den where the image and colour used in it maked it look unreal, it is a fantasy world that is within this world and how the made up characters of the fairy tales come to life. It is a fatasy world within a real world. as this picture gives you an idea of what is within but you still do not want to expect. A surprise because you wouldn't expect the characters of the fairy tales to come to life but in disney world they do.

I added more pictures of Disney world but of what was inside. These imsages are of different Disney characters. Although they are all of the same world, they are in separate worlds due to their separate stories within each other. These came from
http://familyfriendly.files.wordpress.com/2006/02/mickey%20and%20minnie%20mouse%20at%20orlando%20disney%20world.jpg and http://byrdseyeviewtravel.com/images/chip___dale2_iz8w.png
The entrance and exit is the entrance to Disney world, with all the fairy tales in one place which combines what is within and combining the zones.

Labyrinth-existing

These images which I retrieved from https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkQ1wNpm-jiEHaofkhJCn8TaGbDhw1iVTIqumweGS6mm6FDHSbqv7H2SKXMVLAJOZWgJNqMyGjRdzrz-PZw_lkoK5MBL69Jl7lznJjh2SMSyBUts4y33GdxuW37oU9ryN_3SmWhhXOAaA/s1600-h/536966507_94f12f1e67_o.jpg and https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd151WETq5t1gADlGsELdsz5NEQxuYp2l4gAPMNN_65hhXlKVkJSVinS0Fquzmgq_rB5mJRHn4Od5IZpKVs-bPnLtQmV6PRpdxXXFPS5woyvbP8Ti92-QhTW4heQ_DPod0yk6kGbScPGc/s1600-h/536851496_48b7fd988d_o.jpg.
These are made with what seems to be like paper giving the paper a 3d feel to it, and it made by folds and based on some of Esher's work. I find it interesting, as these images give a sense of a world with in the labyrith, of confusion and mystery yet it gives an interest as it goes in all sorts or different directions unknown to where it will lead anyone.

Maze- existing, daily life

My other images is of a maze which I retrieved from http://www.sheffordtown.co.uk/maze/index.html.

This is a arial view of an actual maze, a labyrinth, with the theme of finding a way out, a world of its own. This has a entrance and an exit in which you eventually find and the zone that connects the entrance and the exit is the actual maze and what is within it.

Monsters inc-cartoonistic, imaginary, fictional

I was thinking about the impossible world and about a world that connects, as we have to combine the rest of the pictures and the film came into my head, and how they went from door to door to different worlds. This picture which I retrieved from http://as7.dsi.go.com/is/image/DisneyShopping/27227?$full$ is an image of surprise as they did not know what was beyond that door, it was seperate from all the other worlds yet were combined at the same time.

I added 3 more monsters inc pictures just to show more of the world behind the doors and elaborate it, as in one the images it is obvious that there is a world behind the doors as the monsters are going through them (http://www.razyboard.com/system/thread-diemonsteragkamonstersinc-amroth2-308110-3677907.html). The other two look as though the monsters in monsters inc have a glimpse into the world that they are going to step out into, these images I received from http://www.lovefilm.com/lovefilm/images/products/4/8874-large.jpg and http://albums.mouseplanet.com/DLEsplanadeTramsParkingProcessed/monsters_esplanade_michael.jpg
In these pictures the entrance and exit is all from different doors and it connects the different zones through the factory full of the doors in which each door leads into a separate world and dimension

Final 3

I refined a few parts of my final just to make it a little bit better. I made the yellow colour of the barbed wire less intense so it didn't draw away the attention from the snake and the bird as much, and could be seen more easily. I took away the box surrounding my image because it did not necessarily look necessary, as well as it made it harder to see the reification of my assignment. The barbed wire is still there still giving a sense of being trapped with nowhere to go. I also changed a bit of the video, as now you can see that there is no gap inbetween the two videos and merges must more nicely.

Snake trials

The trials of the snake that I have tried, but do not think that it is good enough as it needs more detail to show it is a snake.

Final 2

Refined final

Final notes (dangerous, lethal, vicious, ruthless)

My idea being dangerous, I showed with my colour, the colour black and yellow which is seen on danger signs and the textures were all a dull colour which tends to seem like a dangerous colour. The form I wanted to show was a viral, afraid to tough it, as though it is poisonous and potentially dangerous, which formed my reificated and invarianced shapes. The shapes it creates is of a snake that soon attacks an innocent bird, which is shown next to the snake and shows the juxtaposition.
Using premier pro to combine all the videos together because of the morphing making it unable to morph into all sorts of shapes. The texture mapping being very useful as I could precisely put the texture in a specific angle and place on the object. Unable to attach to add extra detail however, was shown to some extend as though it was hidden of attached to the object it was intended to attach to.
Reification was shown in the final product as all the images was shown with objects not joined together but forming an image inbetween the spaces and although it first came from a simple shape but then morphed into a different more complicated shape, you could still see the sphere within it, which is where invariance came into the video, that no matter how distorted and transformed the shape was, it was still obvious it came from a sphere originally.

Edit mesh

Using edit mesh was very useful as I could change things within the elements throughtout the film I was making. By using this tool I was able to delete specific polygons and then I could alter the vertexes to the shape I needed to make my reificated shape, the problem with this method was it was difficult to make other shapes as I would have distorted it too much.

2 main videos joined

As I found morphing quite hard as I made shapes and then expected them to morph into something else, It proved difficult, as I tried reificating the image into a reification of another, it would change my video as I did not want it. Trying to replace the spheres did not help either as that just removed my whole video, so instead I used Adobe premier pro to join the two movies with a background.

Colour changes/uvw mspping

from http://www1.cs.columbia.edu/~sedwards/photos/bahamas200511/picfolio/midnails/20051126-4941%20Spikey%20Plant.jpg

As my idea was about the keyword "dangerous", so to incorporate the juxtaposition, I made a video about a dangerous snake attacking an innocent bird. As the bird came about it was used in a way that first formed from a perfect whole sphere, whereas the other parts creating the snakes would be created by viral looking spheres as though it ought not to be touched. So, to further elaborate the bird and its juxtaposition before it is attacked, I wanted it to look nice with a fluid type texture and as it is attacked it would change textures to that spikey viral texture, but was not able to change it, so instead I put the viral dangerous textures on all elements and the form of the perfect sphere that showed the bird after was enough for the juxtaposition, as well as the bird place right next to the snake.
The uvw mapping came in quite useful as you could control the image of the texture and how it would turn out on the element, using different types of textures.
